What makes a company special is its traditions. Maybe each year around the holidays, you host a company wide Gingerbread House competition. Maybe when it snows more than 2-3 inches, the company enjoys a “snow day”. Maybe on those exceptionally rainy days, everybody makes tea and enjoys an hour of reading.
Traditions bond people together, they raise morale and they give everybody something to look forward to.
Building a tribe is one of the surest ways to improve team resilience. But a tribe is not created, it’s built over time.
Plan a series of calendar events, once a quarter, for the next year which become part of your team tradition.
No need to overthink this part. Anything works! Maybe after every quarter you have a social debrief?
A company field day?
Or maybe a potluck?
The choice is yours!
Two things for you to remember:
1. Inclusiveness matters, so be sure to to gather feedback and to include everyone.
2. Much like Aunt Martha wearing clothes that smell like mothballs over the holidays, this is a tradition, so do it every year.
